What is the shelf life of coffee?
The optimum window of consumption for freshly roasted coffee is from 4 days after roasting to about 5 weeks from the roasting date. After this period, the coffee quickly begins to become stale, even if it has been vacuum packed. We suggest that you never buy beans that have a used by date of more than 6 weeks away as coffees that have use by dates of several months or years in advance cannot be fresh. All of our beans are labelled with the date they were roasted so you are guaranteed of their freshness.
How do I store my fresh coffee?
It’s best to keep your coffee beans in an airtight container kept in a cool, dark place. We do not recommend you store your coffee in the fridge or freezer. It is preferable to keep your coffee as whole beans and only grind it just prior to use.
How do I grind it?
It is always preferable to grind your beans just before use. This ensures premium freshness. For espresso machines, the grind should be adjusted so that the machine espresses 30ml of coffee in about 25-30 seconds. If it takes less than 30 seconds, you need to adjust to a finer grind until you have it right. Conversely, if it takes longer than 30 seconds, you need a coarser grind. For plunger and paper filter, it needs to be much coarser than for espresso machines. We can grind to order for you or supply you with a grinder if you need one.
